Abraxas is a power metal band. They are from Germany. Do I really need to say more?It shouldn't surprise anyone that this Abraxas sounds very much like German power metal icons Helloween. That band completely redefined the power metal genre, and their influence, particularly in their home country, is huge. They obviously made an impression on Abraxas, who follows the Helloween formula (thrashy guitars, sing along choruses, prominent keyboards, and of course plenty of melody) pretty closely. What the band lacks in originality, it makes up for in talent and songwriting ability (though the vocals seem a bit weak at times). Abraxas may sound a lot like Helloween, but at least they do it well enough to sound like a respectful tribute rather than a blatant rip-off. Besides, there are worse bands to imitate. There's also a darker element to some of these songs that brings to mind the earlier Blind Guardian offerings.Tomorrow's World is essentially a remastered version of the band's 1993 album The Liaison, with three bonus tracks added for good measure. The Liaison was originally released in Japan only, so this edition lets the rest of us check out Abraxas for the first time.If you're looking for some old-school power metal, and aren't expecting something totally original, you may want to check out Tomorrow's World.
Nice review. I agree. I would add that they remind me more of the 80's classic Helloween line up with Kiske on vox. Not a bad thing.
