Although his recordings are often short and of borderline quality and the linerotes mostly poor, the ethnic music and folk pop lover can sometimes experience a surprise with Maurice Bitter. This is also the case here, with this album recorded in the late 50's, when Cambodjoa enjoyed its independence - even more than a decade before the reign of terror of the Khmer Rouge. The first side with the orchestra of the Royal Ballet may be more carefully documented elsewhere, but the round dance of the girls (B1) accompanied by electric guitar and accordion as well as the tango (!) 'Fleur de Vientiane' (B4) personally written by the charismatic dignitary Norodom Sihanouk are unique.
