No issue of surface noise & warp for me but sounds bad dull & lifeless. Sounds very much like a plain digital transfer.

Bought the black vinyl retail - terrible.pressing. Side one not too bad, but side 2 horrible. Write to asthmatic kitty and they sent a replacement, claiming that they would inspect and listen to it before sending it out. It arrived covered in dust and visibly scuffed. Even after cleaning it was worse than the first one. So I wrote to them again asking whether the said inspection had occured in the floor of a talcum powder factory, or words to that effect. So they sent me a 3rd copy - this time the clear vinyl. Also terrible. WTF. 5 stars for the music. 1.5 for the pressing.

This 10,000 copy run brings up the question: at what point does something stop being limited?

LOVE the music. Too bad it was pressed onto a potato.

My copy doesn't seem to have the noise issues reported previously. Or maybe my ears aren't as good :)Beautiful record.

Wow, this is one noisy piece of wax. Such a shame since the music is so beautiful.

I have a clear vinyl copy direct from Asthmatic Kitty-- a first pressing-- and it sucks. Totally sucks. Surface noise AND distortion. I have four copies in black vinyl-- they are even worse. This is crap vinyl. No other way to describe it. I'm skeptical that there are ANY decent pressings of this LP having heard so many from different sources. The music is genius-- the vinyl quality wrecks this music. I'd buy the CD instead.

my black copy (from amazon) that I got in 2017, and it actually sounds pretty good! Even with the music being relatively low-key, there's not a lot of surface noise there. Was expecting the worst based on reviews, but I guess I got a pretty good outlier, though I'm obviously not the only one (e.g expectdelay above)

This record and its packaging are really cute and the clear vinyl is beautiful but it has so many cracks and pops even on the first listen which is a major let down

There is a sticker on the front of the album so you know it is the clear pressing. Also, this is being sold on his current tour for $25 if you cannot find it in a record store.

Great album, and I have no issues with the pressing. But I find it really funny that the label says its limited in 10.000 units...

My copy only seems to get noisy as it gets closer to the end of side A. It's too bad - Fourth of July is my favorite song on the album.

I had that issue, too. There's a bit of noise on side b, as well, but 'Fourth of July' was pretty unlistenable. I emailed them and they offered to send a replacement, though they said it would take a while. I was quite happy at their response.

Same issue here. Lots of pops and crackles during 'Fourth of July'. All the other songs are fine.

Are we sure there were 10,000 copies? I had a job finding 1 copy...!

10k world wide. It's not all about USA! It's one of the things I learnt from RSD, when they say something is ltd to 500 copies only to find that is in Europe or the UK, and that actually there are 5000 copies worldwide. Of course it only makes a difference if collecting is your thing. Although I am typing this on Discogs, so I'm guessing a lot of us are worried about that.

my copy is clean and clear. no noises at all. besides COME AND FEEL....my fave from from him. A beautiful record. one of the best records of 2015 i guess. About the limitation of this version: Well, i think 10000 copies is just too much to speak about a ltd. edition in these days, but it shows on the other hand HOW many records the industry is selling again, because the ltd. version is sold out since weeks.

Any Record Label wilfully setting out to create "collector's items" should be hung drawn and quartered. Good album though. Very touching.

As far as I can see almost every LP now has a "limited" first run

They as a label actually hardly ever do ltd. editions. When announced, they said they did clear because they acknowledge people like variants. 10,000 copies should prove the opposite, if anything. They tried to make it as widely available as possible. Many record stores got at least 5 copies in addition to what they sold online. It all seems pro-consumer, pro-independent record stores, and pro-music industry.

10k is not really a collectors item. A lot of bands were happy if they could even sell that many!

Guess you were just unlucky - my copy sounds great with very little surface noise. Have you asked AM to replace it?

the pressing is shocking, I have 2 copies, both with scratches in different places on side 1, what are the chances..

agree - absolutely terrible pressing - so noisy - really ruins what is a stunningly beautiful album. Anyone know if the black vinyl is any better?

Turntable Lab has the clear vinyl in stock as of right now if you're looking for it. (I would personally avoid due to lots of claims that it's not a great-sounding pressing.)

I don't think 10,000 is accurate. I would like to see a reputable website cited.

According to the official Reddit account for Asthmatic Kitty Records they pressed 10,000.https://www.reddit.com/r/vinyl/comments/2s68jm/just_announced_a_new_sufjan_record_so_heres_a/cnn24ax?context=3

Maybe 10,000 is the total number of clear copies and some may be sold via indie record shops. At least that's what I'm hoping for. 10,000 does seem like a lot for a "limited" edition.

Yeah it's kinda bs at that volume, but ya know it still sold out nearly everywhere pretty quickly. Supply and demand.
