This album is so good that I have almost had it on repeat for 3 days. It is a nice floating ambient techno masterpiece! You wish it will never end.

One of those albums you feel really good about buying back in the day. Great aural journey for introspective nights.

My history with this album is quite a complex one, I guess. I first heard of this project (or any music of Dozzy for that matter) on Resident Advisor, who gave that album a rave review. I was drawn by the cover art and quickly checked out the snippets but kind of forgot about it, especially after there was long no vinyl release in sight. But still, Twins in Virgo, probably the "loudest" track on the album, made it to my ipod and was played ocassionally. When the album finally came out on vinyl, I bought it despite finding the music a little bit TOO quiet and introspective. Keep in mind that I am a listener of both Techno and Ambient records, but the repetition on this album was a bit too much for me. So why the hell did you buy it, you ask? I guess it is finally time to unveil my secret obsession...my fetish, if you will: the triple Vinyl set. Yes. One is fine, two are better...four are great, too, but the ultimate format, the ultimate haptic and auditive experience, for me, is the triple vinyl. It probably sounds insane but I like the feel of three records in a sleeve, the knowledge that, when a record of normal length was spread across three discs, the sound must be immense. I guess it all started with Kompakts Total 10. I have been buying records for many years prior, even triple record sets, but when I picked up this album, something clicked, something fell into place. Two, all of a sudden, werent enough. Haha, that sounds so beautifully absurd that I have to go on! I mean, its not that I get a hard-on or something...it's more like...people appreciating the weight or the quality of a weapon..or a tool or jewellery. Sliding your hand down the hood of a sports car. That feel. If one of my records should ever made it to vinyl (a lifelong dream!), I would sell my body to make it a three disc set haha.Ok, well I bought the album and it was kind of gathering dust on my shelf. It was enjoyable but I liked the feel of the sleeve more than the actual music. I couldnt understand all the rave reviews and people voting it as their top album. Than I became a father for the second time. My beautiful baby girl. Of course, like most babies, she had trouble going to sleep. So I carried her through our living room, for hours, just like I did with my first daughter. For my personal enjoyment, I tried out some music. Of course I knew that babies love that kind of music. Plastikmans Consumed was a particular favorite of my first daughter at that age. So I pulled out Voices From The Lake and not only worked it wonders in putting my daughter to sleep, it finally clicked with me, too. You don't have to turn it up to 11. Just getting lost in the repetition, slowly walking through our dimly lit living room, the same pattern again and again, just like the music. Ironically, the key is the relatively low volume. When so much music is to be heard loud to "get it", its the exact opposite with this album. All the subtleties you pick up than...a great experience.5/5 - recommendedcheck out aurunik.bandcamp.com or quintdresden.bandcamp.com for my music - thx!

Thanks for all the nice comments, people :-) For quite a while after posting I didnt realize that so many people liked the review! My youngest daughter is now three and still loves Techno (among other things, though).

I relate, having also used electronic music and techno in particular for similar purpose when my daughter was a baby... although perhaps less overtly tranquil choices, I recall playing Octave One and The Martian in the background while holding with her in the living room at night, feeling that the steady pulse might somehow be suggestive of a heartbeat (and therefore reminiscent of womb-life). Awesome review, thanks.

the digital album is an mixed version with some tracks that aren't on the vinyl version, and some of the vinyl tracks are altered. This version is an ongoing mix while the vinyl version are 6 seperate tracks

pretty sure your confusion stems from the extra tracks & versions on the CD release... these LP's only have 1 or 2 tracks per side for proper sound, hence limited space..

Yes. It's different. The CD version is seamlessly mixed, contains tracks that are not present on the vinyl/digital version, and has slightly different pre-master finish compared to the vinyl/digital version. Also, "01.12 N." (quite possibly a rework of one of the Aquaplano tracks that Donato did with Nuel - not Neel - in 2008; see D. Dozzy* & Nuel - Untitled) and "In Giova (Alternative Mix)" are not featured on the CD.There is a Youtube video that features the complete CD version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69Fjoo9Rkx4I highly recommend that you take a listen, and order a copy from Prologue if you like it, as the two versions are two different listening experiences: http://prologuemusic.bandcamp.com/album/prgcd001-voices-from-the-lake-feat-donato-dozzy-and-neel

Residentadvisor voted this album as the best one in 2012. Not without a reason: It is awesome! Both, the CD and the Vinyl are pure bliss. The CD is more like a mixed version for the homelisteners while the 3 x 12" is for the DJs.I don't think, I need to say something more because everything I wanted to say was posted from the like-minded before!Get it!

One of the best ambient / techno album without a doubt.Mine sounds beautiful on vinyl.

What a shame. This incredible album is finally released on vinyl and it has to be one of the worst pressings I have ever seen. It sounds dull. The grooves are virtually non-existent, they almost appear to be drawn on. Very, very disappointing. I guess I'll have to stick with the digital version.

Same poor pressing quality here. I replaced my stylus the first time I played this, because there was so much surface noise. Lots of cracks & pops at the start of every side as well. Other records sound fine, so the dust/dirt argument is invalid. Too bad. I guess I will have to make do with the digital version.

Agree, mine's a piece of shit as well. Loads of surface noise and skips with the slightest provocation. Really poor quality pressing.

I don't know. I cleaned it on a VPI, the stylus was clean...I put on some other albums and there were no issues. I guess I must have gotten a dud. I WILL be buying another copy. Love this album.

Mine sounds completely beautiful. Yours HAS to be defective, or your stylus must be either old or dragging a dustball.

I'm listening to track C "Twins In Virgo". Half way through the bassline came in and sent me to la la land. This album is absolutely perfect and this moment in track C is the highpoint. Unrestricted bliss.

I just recently discovered Donato Dozzy and his music by listening to the three part Labyrinth 2008 mix at a car drive. As soon as I got back home I started to go through Donato's discography at YouTube and was totally paralysed by his music. I discovered that there's an LP, which was previously released only on CD, by him and his buddy Neel coming out on vinyl soon. I forced myself to avoid the cd version and any clips of this album up to this point. Now the 4th track of the album is spinning on my turntable and I got goosebumbs all over my body. This album is a journey through a sinister, primal forest in a starry night while the moon is shining through the cannopy of leaves. Like the lyrical self, lost in contemplation of a poem, you will lose yourself in contemplation of this album.

His 2008 Labyrinth mix changed my life and my musical tastes. I was listening to tech house before that. I constantly go back to it. They still dont have the complete tracklist and its been 8 years. Maybe 2 tracks left to go. Everyone in this thread is on the same voyage.

Man you need to get the cd too. It's the proper excursion of the album as it's one tune. This is the first time for me where the cd is where it's at......this is simply due to the fact you have to flip the record. This album should not be stopped. Nothing beats popping on some quality headphones, popping on the Voices From The Lake cd and sitting back and enjoying the journey. Magical stuff.

Can anyone tell me if the track S.T. is the same as S.T. (VFTL Rework) as on the CD? The run time detailed here for both Circe & S.T. on side D is 14:01 whereas on the CD it's 12:48 (4:31 + 8:17). Need to listen to the other tracks properly but S.T. (VFTL Rework) has really grabbed me.
